Slough Charity Wins Humanitarian Award,Proof That Helping People Still Gets You Trophies, Not Just Thank Yous.

A charity founded in Slough has received one of the highest honours for humanitarian service, joining a list of prominent recipients that includes former US First Lady Nancy Reagan, former US President Jimmy Carter and Italian singer Andrea Bocelli. Khalsa Aid International, founded in Slough in 1999 by Ravi Singh, was presented with the Lions International Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Lions International Convention in Hong Kong. The award recognises exceptional dedication to humanitarian service and comes with a $500,000 grant to support the charity’s ongoing relief work around the world. Global humanitarian work Khalsa Aid operates on the Sikh principle of Seva, meaning selfless service. Over the years, the organisation has provided emergency supplies, medical assistance, clean water and long-term recovery support to communities affected by conflict and disasters across nearly 50 countries. Ravi Singh accepted the award during a special ceremony in early July. He said he was “humbled” that the organisation’s volunteers and humanitarian work had received international recognition. The charity plans to use the grant to support ongoing projects, including flood relief efforts in Assam, India, and the construction of shelters in Beirut for people displaced from southern Lebanon. Khalsa Aid is also providing humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the civil war in Sudan. I see people struggling Speaking about the organisations philosophy, Singh said its humanitarian work is driven by a commitment to helping people regardless of their background. I love people full stop, I don't see religion, race, colour, I see people struggling and thats genuine drive. Khalsa Aid has also established the Langar Aid community kitchen in Coventry, which provides hundreds of hot meals to people in need. Joining a notable list of recipients The Lions International Humanitarian Award has previously been presented to a number of prominent figures. Nancy Reagan received the award in 1983-84 in recognition of her activities against drug and alcohol abuse, while Jimmy Carter was honoured in 1995-96 for his humanitarian efforts and long standing involvement with Lions Clubs. Lions Clubs International is a global volunteer network founded in the United States in 1917. It has grown to more than 1.4 million members across nearly 50,000 clubs in around 200 countries and geographical area. The organisation also has a presence across Berkshire, with Lions clubs in Reading, Windsor, Newbury and Bracknell. For Khalsa Aid, the international award represents recognition of decades of humanitarian service while providing additional funding for relief projects in communities facing conflict, displacement and natural disaster.
