The Courtroom, Not the Stage, Awaits Gary Glitter Again

Former singer Gary Glitter, whose legal name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with a series of historical sexual offences allegedly committed between 1978 and 1981, according to the Metropolitan Police. The charges relate to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14. The allegations concern one alleged victim and are said to have taken place at a residential address in Kensington. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the allegations were first reported on 9 January 2025, prompting a criminal investigation. Gadd was interviewed by detectives on 22 July 2025 in connection with the inquiry. Following the investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised criminal charges after reviewing the available evidence. Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said prosecutors concluded there was sufficient evidence to bring the case before the courts and that doing so was in the public interest. The alleged victim is being supported by specialist officers throughout the legal process, police said. Gadd is currently being held at HMP Channings Wood in Devon and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 August, where the charges will be formally presented. The criminal proceedings are now before the courts. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations that have not been proven, and Paul Gadd is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
