NIA Goes Nationwide in Operation Sindoor Case, Cyber Terrorism Gets a Surprise Offline Update

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted searches at five locations across five states as part of its ongoing investigation into an alleged cyber terrorism case registered in Gujarat. The searche were carried out in Junnar in Pune, Maharashtra; Nadiad in Kheda, Gujarat; Ramagundam in Karimnagar, Telangana; Gopalganj in Bihar; and Delhi, according to an NIA spokes person. The case under investigation was registered on June 25, 2025, and relates to an alleged cyberattack targeting government websites during the period of Operation Sindoor. Searches conducted across five states NIA teams carried out searches at the five locations as investigators continued to examine the alleged cyber terrorism network and gather evidence connected with the case. The operation covered locations in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Bihar and the national capital, reflecting the agency's effort to trace the individuals and digital infrastructure allegedly associated with the case. The searche are part of the investigation into activities that the agency says involved an attempted cyberattack against websites belonging to Government of India entities. Alleged DDoS attack during Operation Sindoor According to the NIA spokesperson, the accused allegedly attempted a sophisticated Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against 54 websites of Government of India entities during Operation Sindoor. A DDoS attack generally involves overwhelming an online service or website with a large volume of requests or traffic, potentially disrupting its normal functioning. In this case, investigators are examining the alleged attempt in the context of Operation Sindoor, making the cyber investigation part of a wider national security probe. Investigation continues The NIA latest searches are aimed at collecting additional evidence related to the case and establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged cyberattack. Investigators will examine material recovered during the searches and assess its relevance to the allegations under investigation.
