Violence Rocks Shillong, Assam, Meghalaya Leaders Push for Calm

The Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya have appealed to people in both States to maintain restraint and help restore normalcy following violence in Shillong during a protest rally on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The violence erupted during a bike rally organised by the Khasi Students Union (KSU). The incident reportedly left several people assaulted and caused extensive damage to vehicles, with authorities facing the challenge of containing tensions and preventing further escalation.
