New Delhi, June 2, 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday said its newly launched Class 12 re-evaluation portal was targeted by multiple cyberattack attempts, including a large-scale denial-of-service (DoS) attack, as thousands of students logged in to apply for post-result scrutiny. Despite the attempted disruptions, the Board said the portal remained operational and continued to process applications while technical teams monitored the platform. ## Massive Cyberattack Targets Re-Evaluation Portal According to CBSE, the most significant cyberattack involved a denial-of-service (DoS) attempt that generated nearly **1.5 million hits within two minutes**, aiming to overwhelm the online system. The Board also detected **more than one lakh unauthorized file access attempts** during the same period, indicating multiple efforts by malicious actors to disrupt the platform's services. In a statement posted on X, CBSE said: > "While thousands of students accessed the CBSE re-evaluation portal today, malicious actors attempted to disrupt services through a barrage of cyberattacks." The Board assured students that its cybersecurity teams responded promptly to ensure uninterrupted access. ## Portal Remained Functional CBSE stated that despite intermittent technical issues and repeated cyberattack attempts, the portal continued functioning throughout the day. "Our teams remain vigilant and responsive to ensure our dearest students are facilitated in all ways possible," the Board said while reassuring students that their applications could still be submitted successfully. By **3:00 PM on Tuesday**, over **16,000 students** had successfully completed their applications, while the system was simultaneously handling more than **8,000 active users**. ## Delayed Launch Added to Student Concerns The online portal was originally scheduled to open on **June 1**, but remained inaccessible throughout the day due to technical issues. After several complaints from students and school principals, the portal eventually became operational at **4:00 AM on June 2**. It will remain open until **midnight on June 6** for students seeking verification of marks and re-evaluation. Earlier, a CBSE official had stated that technical experts from **IIT Madras** and **IIT Kanpur** were working with the Board to strengthen the platform and improve its stability. ## On-Screen Marking Under Scrutiny The launch of the portal comes amid increased attention on CBSE's newly introduced **On-Screen Marking (OSM)** system for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets. This year's evaluation process marked the first large-scale implementation of digital answer-sheet assessment, with several students raising concerns regarding possible discrepancies in marks and evaluation. The uncertainty has been particularly significant as university admissions and counselling processes are underway across the country. ## New Re-Evaluation Process CBSE has introduced a revised post-result scrutiny mechanism that differs from previous years. Under the new process, students first receive **scanned copies of their evaluated answer books** before deciding whether to seek verification or re-evaluation. Students can raise concerns regarding: * Missing pages in answer books * Missing supplementary sheets * Blurred scanned copies * Incorrect answer book uploads * Evaluation against an incorrect question paper set * Errors in marking specific answers * Other evaluation-related discrepancies Applications and fee payments are being accepted exclusively through the online portal using students' login credentials and Aadhaar authentication. ## Improvements Based on Student Feedback CBSE said it has already implemented several improvements after receiving feedback from students during the portal's rollout. Among the key changes is an extension of session time limits, allowing students more time to complete their applications without facing unexpected session expirations. The Board said it will continue monitoring portal performance and strengthening cybersecurity measures to ensure smooth access throughout the application window. ## Focus on Secure and Transparent Evaluation The cyberattack attempts coincided with one of the busiest periods for the Board as thousands of students sought access to answer sheets and re-evaluation services. While investigations into the cyberattacks continue, CBSE has reiterated that the portal remains secure and that eligible students can complete their applications within the scheduled deadline. The Board has advised candidates to rely only on official CBSE communication channels for updates regarding the re-evaluation process.
