Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth arrived at Kathmandu Airport on Sunday, August 16, 2026, for a three day official visit to Nepal aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and military to military relations between India and Nepal.
The visit, scheduled from August 17 to 19, comes as the two neighbouring countries continue their longstanding defence engagement and institutional military ties.
During his visit, General Seth is scheduled to receive a Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters. He will also hold discussions with senior Nepali military leadership on matters related to defence cooperation and bilateral military relations.
The Army Chief engagement are expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to review existing areas of cooperation and explore avenues for further strengthening their defence partnership.
India and Nepal share close historical and military ties, including cooperation in training, exercise and other areas of defence engagement. The two armies have also maintained regular high level interactions as part of their broader bilateral relationship.
General Seth’s visit therefore represents another step in sustaining communication between the armed forces of the two countries. While the visit is primarily focused on military and defence cooperation, it also comes against the backdrop of India and Nepal broader relationship as close neighbours.
The three day programme is expected to include meetings with senior military officials and other engagements designed to reinforce mutual understanding and cooperation between the Indian and Nepali armies.
