The headline emphasizes the urgency of Nepal rescue operation and the number of missing Indians, creating a strong emotional focus while providing limited context about the broader disaster and rescue efforts.
Rescue teams in Nepal are racing against time to find survivors after a devastating flash flood swept through several northern districts, leaving hundreds of people missing and pushing the official death toll to 392 by Thursday night.
A day after the disaster, Nepal Army personnel and other security forces continued searching through mud filled valleys and hilly terrain for people who may still be trapped or stranded.
290 Indians still missing
The disaster has also triggered a major rescue effort involving Indian authorities.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in New Delhi that at least 290 Indians remained missing, while around 200 others were stranded on the Chinese side of the Sino Nepal border.
India said it was coordinating with authorities in both Nepal and China to assist with rescue efforts and establish the status of those affected.
The situation remains particularly challenging because of damaged roads, difficult mountainous terrain and the continuing threat of further flooding.
Fresh warning over possible barrier lake
As rescue operations intensified, authorities received another warning from the region.
Nepal flood forecasting division, citing Chinese officials, warned of the formation of a significant barrier lake on the Tibetan side. Such a development could create an additional flood risk downstream, prompting authorities to issue alerts to communities on both sides of the Trishuli River.
Residents were urged to take safety precautions and remain extremely cautious as authorities monitored the situation.
Rescue operation faces multiple challenges
The rescue teams are working in difficult conditions, with large quantities of mud and debris covering affected areas. The mountainous landscape and potential for further flooding are adding to the difficulties faced by emergency personnel.
For families waiting for information about missing relatives, however, the search remains a race against time.
With 392 deaths officially reported and hundreds still missing, the immediate priority remains locating survivors, evacuating those stranded and preventing further loss of life.
The reported figure of 290 missing Indians also underlines the international dimension of the disaster, with Nepal, India and China coordinating amid an unfolding humanitarian emergency.
