The Jharkhand government has cancelled the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination following weeks of protests by students over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the decision after a four hour emergency Cabinet meeting. The announcement came 24 days after students began their protest, demanding action over alleged discrepancies in the examination process.
The government also decided to cancel all examinations conducted since 2014 by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), which has been blacklisted by the authorities. The move could affect a large number of recruitment examinations conducted through the agency over the year.
Committee to Recommend Examination Reforms
Alongside the cancellation, the Jharkhand government announced the formation of a committee headed by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal. The committee will examine the existing examination system and recommend reforms to improve transparency and prevent irregularities in future recruitment test.
The decision comes amid growing concerns among candidate over the credibility and management of competitive examination in the State.
For students who have spent months preparing for recruitment tests, the cancellation is likely to create further uncertainty. At the same time, the government decision reflect the pressure it faced from protesting candidates seeking accountability and changes to the examination process.
The latest move now put the focus on how quickly the State can establish a more transparent recruitment system and provide clarity to candidates affected by the cancelled examination.
