37 Dead, Hundreds Evacuated as Strike Rocks Kyiv Weapons Depot

At least 37 people have died and almost 400 have been evacuated after a Russian drone strike hit a weapons depot near residential buildings in Myla, west of Kyiv. Ukrainian officials said the strike caused ammunition and drones stored at the site to detonate late Friday, resulting in a powerful explosion that damaged nearby properties, including a care home for elderly people and people with disabilities. Regional officials said 42 people were injured, including four children, while rescue teams continued operations at the site in Bucha district on Saturday. President Volodymyr Zelensky said an investigation had been launched into what he described as possible official negligence over the storage of explosive materials close to residential areas. Ukraine's prosecutor general is also examining whether the ammunition was legally stored at the facility and whether officials responsible for the decision followed the required rules. Russia Ministry of Defence confirmed that its forces had targeted an ammunition depot in Myla, saying it contained components and launch boosters for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles. More Attacks Reported The deadly depot explosion came amid a wider wave of strikes across Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian officials reported separate attacks in the Boryspil district and Kyiv, where a 14 year old and a two year old were reported killed in separate incidents. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko also said five people were injured in fresh strikes on the capital on Saturday morning. Zelensky reported overnight attacks in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia, while Ukraine military said it had shot down 233 Russian drones. Russian officials, meanwhile, reported casualties from strikes in the Belgorod and Rostov regions. Officials in the Russian occupied part of Zaporizhzhia also reported injuries after a Ukrainian strike hit a shopping centre. Businesses Also Affected Russian online retailer Ozon said one of its logistics centres was hit during an overnight Ukrainian drone strike. The company said operations were suspended at another facility and staff were evacuated because of security concerns. The incidents come as Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify long range attacks. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian economic and industrial facilities, while Moscow continues to strike military and infrastructure targets across Ukraine. The latest attacks underline the continuing civilian risks of the conflict, with residential areas, workplaces and other civilian facilities repeatedly caught up in the fighting.
