India is maintaining diplomatic contact with both Russia and Ukraine as it explores possible ideas that could help reduce tensions and eventually bring an end to the ongoing conflict, External Affair Minister S. Jaishankar said on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Jaishankar made the remarks in Warsaw after meeting Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. His comments came a day after he held talks with senior Ukrainian leadership in Kyiv during his visit to Ukraine on September 3.
According to Jaishankar, India remains in continuous communication with both sides and is looking at whether suggestions or proposals could be developed that might contribute to the mitigation or cessation of the conflict.
India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred route toward resolving the Russia,Ukraine war. New Delhi has also maintained diplomatic and economic engagement with Moscow while developing closer ties with Kyiv and other European partners.
Jaishankar latest comment under line India attempt to maintain communication with both side despite their continuing differences. However, whether these diplomatic contacts can translate into concrete steps toward a ceasefire or lasting settlement remains dependent on the willingness of Russia and Ukraine to negotiate.
His meeting with Sikorski also provided an opportunity to discuss the wider European perspective on the conflict, while Jaishankar’s preceding visit to Kyiv highlighted India’s continued engagement with the Ukrainian side.
For now, India appears determined to keep the diplomatic channels open even as the search for a workable path to peace remains a difficult one.
