Nepal Flood Crisis, 287 Indians Still Missing as 120 Cross Into Nepal From China

More than 72 hours after devastating flash floods struck Nepal, 287 Indian nationals remain missing, according to the latest figures released by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday evening. The ministry also said that 128 people of Indian origin who hold other nationalities remain unaccounted for. At the same time, 88 Indian nationals were rescued during the day as rescue and relief operations continued in affected areas. In another development, 120 Indian nationals crossed into Nepal from China on Saturday. The Indian government said arrangements would be made to facilitate their return to India. Four additional Indian nationals were rescued from a hydropower project in Rasuwa and were expected to travel to Kathmandu later in the day. India Sends Forensic Teams to Nepal With Nepalese authorities facing difficulties identifying victims, India is sending six forensic expert teams to Kathmandu. The teams will assist with the analysis of DNA samples to help identify mortal remains and support efforts to provide families with information about those who remain unaccounted for. The move comes as rescue teams and authorities continue dealing with the enormous scale of the disaster along the Nepal,Tibet border. Nepal Flood Disaster Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has confirmed at least 626 deaths following the catastrophic flash floods and landslides. More than 2,400 people remain missing, while rescue and identification efforts continue. For India, the immediate focus remains on locating missing nationals, assisting those rescued and coordinating their safe return. The deployment of forensic teams is also expected to help Nepalese authorities in the difficult process of identifying victims as the humanitarian response continues.
