Nepal Flood Crisis- PM Modi Calls Balen, India Sends Relief, Neighbourhood First Goes Into Rescue Mode.

India has stepped up humanitarian assistance to Nepal after devastating floods struck the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking to Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah and assuring him that India is ready to provide all possible assistance. Soon after the conversation, India dispatched around 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and essential medicines to Nepal aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft. The assistance comes as rescue and relief operations continue following severe flash floods that have affected parts of Nepal, including areas near the Nepal-Tibet border. Modi Speaks to Nepal PM Balen Prime Minister Modi spoke with Balendra Shah and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives caused by the floods. Modi said that the people of India stood in solidarity with Nepal during the difficult situation and assured Shah that India was prepared to provide humanitarian assistance. He also said that Indian teams were coordinating with relevant authorities on rescue and relief operations. Shah thanked Modi for the call and expressed appreciation for India’s offer of assistance, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding relationship and friendship between the two countries. India Sends 10 Tonnes of Relief Material Following the diplomatic outreach, an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft transported approximately 10 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief material to Nepal. The consignment included several items intended to support people affected by the disaster, including temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, medicines and other essential supplies. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the dispatch, saying the assistance was intended to support Nepal response to the devastating floods. He also expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and said India stood with Nepal and its people during the crisis. Nepal Welcomes India's Assistance Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal also expressed gratitude for the assistance, particularly the medical supplies being provided for flood relief operations. He said India rapid response reflected the strength of the bilateral relationship and the solidarity between the two neighbouring countries during a difficult period. The response adds a humanitarian dimension to the close ties between India and Nepal, with the immediate priority remaining rescue, relief and assistance to people affected by the floods. Indians Among Those Reported Missing The disaster has also affected Indian nationals in Nepal. More than 100 Indians have reportedly been listed as missing, including tourists and pilgrims as well as people working at the Trishuli hydropower project. The exact status of several individuals remained unclear as communication and transport links in affected areas were disrupted. The Indian Embassy in Nepal said it was working with the relevant Nepalese authorities to facilitate the rescue and relief of Indian nationals affected by the flash floods. It said rescue and relief efforts were being strengthened in coordination with the Nepalese government. The Nepal Tourism Board separately provided emergency and tourist assistance numbers for people requiring help.
