PM Modi to Pezeshkian,Keep Civilians Safe,War Has Already Taken Enough Attendance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, with the two leaders discussing bilateral ties and the evolving situation in West Asia. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the discussions included recent developments in the West Asia conflict and the two leaders' perspectives on the rapidly changing regional situation. Modi expressed concern over the escalation of tensions and reiterated India's long standing position that disputes should be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy. The MEA said the Prime Minister also stressed the importance of continued efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in West Asia. A key focus of the discussion was the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure amid the conflict. Modi called for safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce and emphasized that civilians, commercial shipping and seafarers must not be harmed under any circumstances. The emphasis on civilian safety comes amid continuing concerns over the humanitarian and economic consequences of instability in the region, particularly for people and international trade routes affected by the conflict. During the meeting, Modi also conveyed India willingness to cooperate closely with Iran through multilateral platforms, including BRICS and the SCO. The Prime Minister further said he looked forward to welcoming President Pezeshkian to India for the upcoming BRICS Summit. The meeting comes as India seeks to maintain diplomatic engagement with countries across West Asia while continuing to advocate dialogue, de-escalation and the protection of civilian interest. While the meeting reaffirmed India diplomatic position, the broader regional situation remains complex, with any lasting improvement depending on developments beyond bilateral discussion between India and Iran.
