About WhatITakeHome
WhatITakeHome is a free calculator that estimates take-home pay from a US salary. It shows how federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare (FICA), and state and local taxes combine to turn gross pay into net pay.
Who runs it
WhatITakeHome is built and maintained by independent developers and financial software researchers. Our goal is to provide fast, privacy-first, zero-tracking tax calculations that clearly visualize where every dollar of your paycheck goes.

- Social Security wage base: Social Security Administration annual announcements.
- 401(k) limits: IRS annual retirement plan limit notices.
- State and local taxes: state revenue department publications. State figures are approximations and are being reviewed for 2026.
